In conjunction with the global population reaching 7 billion, the Center for Biodiversity released a list of the top 10 species in the U.S. threatened with extinction due to overpopulation. As human population grows, we consume increasing amounts of resources. We destroy habitat, poison and eat other species into extinction. The ten species most at risk for extinction from overpopulation in the U.S. are:
- Florida panther
- Atlantic bluefin tuna
- Loggerhead sea turtles
- Sandplain gerardia
- Lange’s metalmark butterfly
- Mississippi gopher frog
- White River spinedace
- Polar bear
- Gulf sturgeon
- San Joaquin kit fox
