Forty-one Plants Now Blooming In The Desert Desert

Tom Chester has posted a the results of a  recent plant survey of the Iron Age Mine Area, which is 23 miles west of 29 Palms. Completed on October 7, 2011, the survey  found 70 species of which 41 were in bloom.  You can see the details of the survey and plant lists at  Flora of Iron Age Mine Area, west of Landers.

    I suspect the early season rains have something to do with it, but I’m not sure. You might contact the people who did the survey and see what they say.

    I didn’t even know there was a ‘fall bloom’ in the SoCal deserts.

    Were I retired I’d head down there tomorrow.
