Birding Shollenberger Park

Today was the last field trip for the Shorebird class.  We went to Shollenberger Park in Petaluma.  The top story of the day was we saw a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper which is rare find on the Pacific Coast. It is an Asian Bird.  It normally breeds in northern Siberia and winters mainly in Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand.

Other highlights were seeing Pacific Golden-Plovers, a Green Heron and watching a Kite hover and hunt.  In total we saw 40 species including 12 shorebirds.
