Baseball and Gulls

The Bay Citizen and New York Times just published an article on an escalating conflict between the San Francisco Giants and Western Gulls. The Gulls have been showing up in larger numbers and earlier in the games. The Gulls come to eat food scraps and have also been soiling Giant fans.  To deal with the problem, the Giants are considering using falcons or hawks to scare away the gulls. One way of doing this is to hire professional falcons, who use well-fed hawks who would scare and chase off  but not kill the gulls.

One of the bird experts interviewed for the article was Dan Murphy, a Giants fan and Golden Gate Audubon trip leader and teacher.  To learn more read:  Fans Dodge Fly Balls, and Flying Bird Poop, as Seagull Problem Soars – The Bay Citizen.
