The recent “Megafires” of the southwest may have permanently changed the landscape. Although much of of the flora is adapted to fire, it is not necessarily adapted to the huge blazes we have recently had in the southwest. The severe drought and greater frequency of larger fires may result in permanent changes. Destroyed Ponderosa Pine forests may not return.
