May 6 National Public Gardens Day

May 6, 2011 is the third annual nationwide celebration of botanical gardens, arboretum, and other public gardens.   National Public Gardens Day is a day of celebration to raise awareness of America’s public gardens and their important role in promoting environmental stewardship and awareness, plant and water conservation, and education in communities nationwide.  Over 500 botanic gardens, arboretum, educational gardens, farm gardens, historical landscapes, zoos, museum gardens, and other members of the American Public Gardens Association (APGA) will be celebrating National Public Gardens Day each in their own way.   Many gardens will be having special programs; some are offering free admission.  To find your local gardens go to the APGA website’s garden finder.
