Up and Down California celebrates the  150th anniversary of the Whitney Survey.

The Whitney Survey was a California geological survey team that traveled 14,000+ miles in California to collect information about the new state from 1860 to 1864.  The leader of the team was William H. Brewer, who kept an  extensive journal of the trip.  Starting On November 14, 2010 the blog Up and Down California started posting excerpts from the journals of  Brewer,”in real-time plus 150 years”.  The survey included extensive collection of California plants.
