Birding Panoche Valley

Updated 2/16/11

Saturday (2/12/11) I was on the first day of a two-day birding trip to the Panoche Valley.  We bird the  area along J-1 between highway 25 at Pacines  and  I-5.  We stopped at to see  owls at Mercey Hot Springs (admission $5/person).  Highlights were seeing three owls, a Cassin’s Kingbird and watching owls, Red-tailed Hawks and Falcons chase each other.  Although we did see most of the species we were looking for, the amount of birds out was less than we had hoped.  To see the bird list for the trip go to: http://www.wingbeats.org/classes/lists/11winter.htm and check day 2/12/11 Paicines.
