The Bay Citizen reported that the number of calls to the sheriff’s department for Mountain Lion spottings in San Mateo County is up to 35 this year from only 14 last year. However, it is unclear if there really are more mountain lions or just more reports. Some reports turned out to be bobcats, dogs or house cats. The Department of Fish and Game say their data shows that the statewide mountain lions population is decreasing. There was no specific mention of the mountain lion population in San Mateo county.
