Garden Planting Season is Here

California Poppies by Sandy Steinman

October and November are prime planting season for California Natives

October and November, after the first serious rain, is the ideal time of year to plant in California.  The winter rains help plants get established so they will need less water next growing season.

Here are a number of resources for choosing and buying native plants:

California Native Plant Society list of nurseries that sell California native plants: http://www.cnps.org/cnps/grownative/nurseries.php

Plant Native list of nurseries that sell native plants.  This link is for California but they have links for native nurseries throughout the country: http://www.plantnative.org/nd_ca.htm

California Native Plant Link Exchange is a resource to help gardeners select native California plants for that will grow in their local areas and lists nurseries selling native plants.
