First New Carnivore in 24 years

The first carnivorous animal to be discovered in 24 years was found  by Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust researchers in a Madagascar  wetland.  It is a cat-sized creature in the  mongoose-like family and has been named the Durrell’s vontsira(Salanoia durrelli).  Although recently discovered it may not be around long as its habitat may be destroyed by agricultural development.  It has been placed on the on The IUCN Red List as Endangered .
