After leaving Istanbul I went on a two-week Lake Van natural history trip to the eastern part of Turkey with Green Tours, a British based natural history travel company. The trip focused on wildflowers, birds, butterflies and the occasional cultural site. The trip included participants from England, New Zealand and the U.S. We had three very knowledgeable and experienced guides. The first three days we were based in Dougubeyazit, which is at the northern end of Lake Van. Geographic highlights included Mt. Ararat, the Tendurek Pass and Muradiye Waterfall.
