Carol Leigh has decided to stop posting wildflower information on the California Wildflower Hotsheet. Her decision to do this is based on the behavior of people trespassing and destruction caused to plants by inconsiderate photographers and wildflower seekers. The loss of this site is considerable as it has been a valuable resource for many years. See her note at the website: http://www.calphoto.com/wflower.htm
In consideration of what Carol is saying and aware of recent developments in the future I will only post wildflower blooms in public areas (parks, gardens, forests, roads, etc). I have also removed non-public sites from my previous postings. Carol has been extremely generous and energetic in her efforts to share wildflower information over many years and I want to acknowledge and thank her for efforts.
As a reminder no matter where you go I recommend following these guidelines from the Kern county wildflower website: “Please keep in mind that many displays, while visible from public areas, are contained on private property. Please respect all signs regarding accessibility, and do not trespass on private property to view wildflowers. Picking wildflowers is illegal, and removing them interferes with pollination and reduces their numbers. Transplanting blooming wildflowers is rarely successful. Please enjoy their beauty without damaging them.”
