Today I went birding at the Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve. I hadn’t been here in a several years and it seemed like a good place to take friends who were new to birding. I quickly remembered why it is one of the favorite birding spots in the Bay Area. The water birds were plentiful. It was easy to get close, get looks and take photos. We spent about two hours around high tide in areas near the visitor center and duck pond. My favorite bird of the day was a Common Yellowthroat. We saw thirty birds including a Swan Goose that is probably an escaped pet.
As the nearby cafe was closed, we treated ourselves to an early Chinese New Year’s Dim Sum lunch at Ming’s.
