Rain has been abundant since last summer, and winter temperatures are warm. The result will be a strong season of desert color. A casual recording (non-scientific) of plants in flower along the first half mile of Sutherland Trail, and the short unmarked spur trail to Dripping Springs, resulted in this list, with yellow and gold poppies being most profuse and evident:
fiddle neck, lupine, poppy, owl clover, fairy duster, chicory, phacelia, brittle bush, nama, oenothera (calylophis), desert lavender (hyptis), sundrop?, penstemon parryi, wild mustard, popcorn flower, blue dicks”
