Breeding Birds Use Alligators To Protect Nests

Breeding birds that nest above alligators for protection from mammalian predators may also provide a source of food for the alligators living in the Everglades, Florida, according to a new study.

I had the opportunity to experience this at Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Palm Beach County, Florida. An egret chick fell out of the next. The mother went after the chick and an alligator went after the mother.
