Submitted by Spencer Westbrook author of A Guide to Wildflower Locations of Central and Southern California
I was in the west end of the valley yesterday (Friday 4/18/14) and can confirm the many reports of very good displays of poppies along Hwy 138, around the Poppy Reserve and out on Tejon ranch property around West 300th and 290th Ave. If one stops to look there are other flowers mixed in including gilia, goldfields, popcorn flower, chia, well the usual spring annuals, not in abundance but there nonetheless. Very nice displays of cream cups on the crossover road between 300th and 290 (Gaskil Rd?), these are always growing at this location.
I expect this display to be at or near peak with next week being about the peak.
The pictures attached were out of 300th Ave at Quail Lake Hills, (4 wheel drive access for this area unless one parks on 300th Ave and walks along the fence lines).
