More Texas Hill Country Wildflowers 3/30/14

Rob Greebon Photography has the following wildflower report for Texas Hill country:

I drove a long way on Saturday, covering over 200 miles in the Hill Country. At sunrise, I found myself at Enchanted Rock. I found this small patch of bluebonnets (rare in the park) to use as foreground.

Otherwise, I drove from Fredericksburg to Llano on 965, up and down 152 between Llano and Castell, along 962 and 3347 west of Marble Falls. Bottom line is that either the flowers are still a ways away or this will be a below average year. I’ve read other reports that offer a little hope – especially around Park Road 4 and Inks Lake, but either way the bulk of the bloom hasn’t really started. Along the roads, there are patches of bluebonnets, but nothing I’d return for. Also, what used to be a sometimes amazing stretch along Hwy 71 between Llano and Marble Falls has been bulldozed with work on the highway. That is very disappointing.

There are some positive reports coming in from southeast of Austin, so I hope to get down there in the next few days – or at least by the end of this week.

In the meantime, here is a bluebonnet sunrise from Enchanted Rock State Park. If you like what you see, please share!
