Today I took a break from flowers and went birding at Lake Merritt. I saw a Red-throated Loon: a Lake Merritt first for me. It is an excellent place to see Black-crowned Night Herons. Birds are somewhat comfortable with people at the lake so it is easy to get close looks and photos. Lots of Scaup, Coots and Gulls. I saw good numbers of Eared and Western Grebes. I identified 25 species in total. To see full list go to: Lake Merritt Bird List 3/28/14
