Planet Earth Online reported that diseases that have affected managed honeybee colonies have now spread to wild bees. A study found deformed wing virus and the fungal parasite Nosema ceranae which have led to honeybee population declines are now widespread in wild bee populations.
Farmers have often used managed honeybee colonies to pollinate their crop. More recently there is increased evidence that wild bees are also important pollinators.
