The Burrowing Owl was voted the 2013 California Audubon Bird of the Year. It received the designation after receiving more than 48 percent of votes cast during an online poll this fall. Here are a few of my photos of this year’s winner and one of my favorite birds.
Other winners are Swainson’s Hawk which was named the Comeback Kid on the strength of its recovery in certain areas of the state, while the Western Snowy Plover was voted the Cutest Fluffy Fluff.
