Romantic Asheville.com has a new fall color report for the Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mts.
Most all leaves are green, but some color is showing especially above 3,500 feet elevation (see photo at right from Cataloochee Valley in the Great Smoky Mountains). Late summer wildflowers are still providing great color. One of the first spots to get fall color (Oct 3-8) is usually Rough Ridge on the Parkway near Grandfather Mountain. Remember to bring a jacket since temperatures in higher elevations can be 10-15 cooler than downtown Asheville, especially when peaks are covered by clouds. See our timeline of peak fall color below.
