Today we were birding the Bay Trail between Point Isabel Regional Park and Shimada Friendship Park in Richmond. The shore birds are starting to come in and were in larger numbers. Most plentiful today were Willets. Twenty-eight species were seen. The most since a spring walk. The highlight was getting seeing a pair of Red-necked Phalaropes (one adult, one immature), first time we have seen them on the Bay Trail. The catches of the day were a Clark’s Grebe and a Great Blue Heron successfully fishing.
There were Monarch and Buckeye Butterflies and a Pocket Gopher as well. A few native plants were in bloom including Gumplant, Zauschneria, California Poppy and Lizard Tail.
