The BBC reported the declining nightingale population may due to habitat loss. The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) states since 1995 the population of nightingales in the UK has decreased by over half to about 6000. By monitoring bird migration with geolocators they believe the birds have changed their migrations patterns and decreased their range. This is possibly due to changes in habitat on the way to their African wintering grounds. Read more at: BBC News – Nightingales’ tags reveal habitat change on migratory routes.
