The California Nature Photographers forum has the following fall color update for Yosemite Valley:
The Autumn color is the best I’ve seen in a good while. The colors will peak this week. So, if you have the opportunity to hit Yosemite, now is the time.
The oaks, and maples are flaming, but the dogwood in the valley is a little weak. If you are after dogwood, take trip up Big Oak Flat Road toward Crane Flat, and either head west on 120, or a bit east. Chris mentioned that the dog wood west of Tunnel View on Hwy 41 are looking nice, too.
The grasses and ferns along the Merced are also looking very nice, with mix of greens and yellows.
The Merced is very low. In places, one can almost cross the river without getting wet. There are many reflection pools.
Tioga Pass is currently open. There is a storm forecast for Thursday/Friday, so it’s likely the pass will close, at least temporarily. The NWS is calling for snow showers in The Vally, as well.
