Science Daily reported that butterfly species that emerge later in the year or fly higher in the mountains have evolved to deal with a shorter window of opportunity to reproduce. Species that emerge in short periods will may fare worse in a warming climate, compared to those that emerge over a longer time period. It is already expected that there will be localized extinctions of one-third of all butterfly species. This makes it even more to understand how climate change will affect surviving species.
