Theodore Payne’ s First Wildflower Report Of 2012

Theodore Payne posted their first weekly wildflower bloom report of the year.  This is their 30th year of their offering the “Wildflower Hotline. See the full report at: http://www.theodorepayne.org/hotline/2012/March-1-2012.pdf  or call 818-768-3533.  A few of the highlights:

Peninsula, South Coast Botanic Garden.  Most California natives are in the Mediterranean Garden. Look for blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium bellum), California poppy (Eschscholzia californica), Canterbury bells (Phacelia campanularia), seaside daisy (Erigeron glaucus), succulent lupine (Lupinus succulentus) and hummingbird sage (Salvia spathaceae) in full bloom.

 Environmental Nature Center in Newport Beach. The trails that wind through the plant communities are a riot of yellow with blooming bush poppy (Dendromecon rigida), flannel bush (Fremontodendron mexicanum) and California coast brittlebush (Encelia californica).

Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve offers several excellent hiking trails to the famous vernal pools

Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont. Showy and fragrant shrubs
