This may be a good year for Monarch Butterflies. The Xerces Society reports that this year’s Monarch reports are coming in higher throughout California. However this is after a 90 percent drop in the Western monarch population over the last thirteen years. Right now on a Lilac bush in my backyard, there are hundreds of Monarch butterflies enjoying the flowers. I have not seen so many Monarchs since the early 1960`s. April 15, 2012 Evergreen Park, Illinois
