Goldenspotted Oak Borer Destroying San Diego Oak Trees

The Goldenspotted Oak Borer (Agrilus coxalis), a jewel beetle has been destroying oak trees in San Diego County. Especially vunerable are Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia), California Black Oak (Quercus kelloggii), Canyon Live Oak (Quercus chrysolepis) and Silverleaf Oak (Quercus hypoleucoides). Over 80 thousand  trees have died from the beetle in the last 10 years.  The Goldenspotted Oak Borer is native to Arizona and is believed to have come to California in load of firewood.  Read more at: LA Times A hungry pest is devouring San Diego County oak trees and Wikipedia Agrilus coxalis
