Highway One Wildflowers 7/15/11

Yesterday I drove south down Highway One in Marin County from Pt. Reyes to where it merges with 101. It was a typical summer day on the coast with plenty of fog which occasionally broke  for views of the coastline.

There were several wildflower areas of interest.  South of Stinson Beach there were many Clarkias and Gumplants in bloom. There was also a beautiful patch of an alien Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium), which had naturalized from Europe.

A stop that was very flowery was the Muir Beach overlook. The short walk to the scenic overlook included Coast Buckwheat, Sticky  (shrubby) Monkeyflower, Wight’s Paintbrush (white), Seaside Daisy, Gumplant, a blue bush Lupine, Lizard Tail, Bluff Lettuce (Dudleya farinosa), Yarrow, Angelica, Pearly Everlasting.
