Anza Borrego Desert Natural History Association published the following wildflower bloom update on 4/24/11
“Clumps of Sand Verbena can be seen just south of the country store at Stagecoach in Shelter Valley. The pictograph trail has many flowers blooming–Apricot Mallow, Desert Pincushion, Desert Dandelion, Monkey Flower and at the entrance between some boulders is a brilliant display of Scarlet Bugler Penstemon. Campbell Grade is sporting Apricot Mallow in full bloom, and Coachwhip [better than I’ve seen it in five years!], with Agave stalks on the rise. Spiny Senna [cassia] and Indigo Bush are in full bloom in Canebrake and Indian Gorge. Desert Pointsettia [Euphorbia eriantha] is blooming in Torote Canyon.”
