It was one of those days that made me glad to live in Berkeley. After several long work days I slept in a bit and got up to a warm, sunny day. First walked over to the Cheese Board Collective for pastries and coffee. Next walked over to Brewed Awakening where there is a Gallery Showing by landscape photographer Floris Van Breugel. He is a photographer who sees and composes landscapes in a very impressive way. Check out his work at his gallery at Art in Nature or if you are in Berkeley you can see his prints at Brewed Awakening.
Next I went to the UC Berkeley Life Sciences Library and looked at nature books including both field guides and academic studies from all over the world. It has been a good source to research areas for overseas trips. The Life Science building was also the site of the Jepson Herbaria and today was part of its Botany Lunch Series. The talk was “Plants and Peshmerga: Botanizing in Iraqi Kurdistan” by Barbara Ertter about a recent trip to the Kurdish area of Iraq, where there is a genuine interest in studying and cataloguing the local flora.
Next it was on to lunch at the Turkish Kitchen for lunch and a walk home where I did some quick photos of flowers in front gardens with a compact camera.
