Biologists are alarmed that the shells of Condor eggs are extremely thin in the Big Sur area. In the past DDT has been the main cause of thin egg shells. Big Sur area condors diet includes sea mammal carrion, which is often high in DDT. Condors in other areas that are not eating carrion from sea mammals do not have abnormally thin shells.
