Lights Out for Birds

Lights Out for Birds is a program to encourage buildings and tenants in S.F. to turn off unnecessary lights.  Birds migrate at night and the lights especially on high buildings can confuse their ability to navigate.  Additionally this program reduces energy use and pollution as well as making the nights darker for astronomy.  To read more go the Golden Gate Audubon.

Extinct Manzanita Found and Considered for Endangered Status

A San Francisco formerly extinct S.F. plant was found and is being considered for endangered status.  Franciscan manzanita (Arctostaphylos franciscana)was believed to be extinct but was spotted by conservationist Daniel Glusenkamp  in San Francisco this past Oct.  Federal wildlife officials are currently deciding if it will be classified as an endangered species.  For more information and find out how to comment on this plant go the S.F.
