Western Azalea (Rhododendron occidentale) is blooming on much of the west coast. There are reports on the Calphoto Yahoo discussion group that it can be found in bloom at Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve, Highway 1 south of Salt Point, back roads south of Ft. Bragg, and the Santa Cruz Mountains. It is still early for further north in Del Norte County. Check the thread entitled “Northern CA Redwoods at Calphoto (you need to sign up to use)
