I began a “Fall Birds of the Bay Area class this week with Golden Gate Audubon taught by Eddie Bartley and Rusty Scalf. Today for the first field trip we went to Rodeo Lagoon and Hawk Hill. Rodeo Lagoon produced over forty species of birds. Hawk Hill was somewhat disappointing as the wind currents were not productive to seeing many raptors. We also saw a few butterflies (Monarchs, Pipevine Swallowtail, Painted Lady) and late season flowers (asters, pennyroyal). There were also a couple of  river otters swimming in Rodeo Lagoon.
