Yesterday I went to the Regional Parks Botanic Garden today in Tilden Park to take a look at early fall. There is a fair amount of color but it’s not just the leaves, which were mainly maples. There are still flowers blooming such as Zauschneria, the end of the Goldenrod, Wagonwheel Mirabilis, California Poppies, Alpine Columbine many species of buckwheat and the flower of the day for me and a surprise, Blazing Star. One of the gardeners told me that this is the first year Blazing Star is in the garden as it is in a newly replanted area. There were also berries including Wild Currants, Snowberry, Coffeeberry and Mahonia. Birds seen or heard included Junco, Scrub Jay, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Bushtit, Spotted Towhee and California Towhee.

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like I will make it to the east side this fall. At least I got there this past summer.
