Central Park Loses Legendary Birder

NPR  had a story acknowledging the life and death of birder Starr Saphir. Starr, who died of cancer this past week,  led many bird walks over 30 years in New York’s Central Park.  She charged on $8 for her walks identified over 259 bird species in Central Park. The HBO documentary called Birders: The Central Park Effect shows her leading walks in the park. Learn more about this legendary birder at: For Longtime Central Park Birder, Walks ‘Heightened Joys Of Life’ : NPR.

  1. Great story. Thank you. I remember walking in North Woods of Central Park, in Manhattan but totally away from it.

    • Thanks for sharing. I have been in Central Park many times, but not since I have gotten interested in birding. My next trip to NY will be quite different.
