The Rarest Bumblebee’s Return
Science Daily reported that “Cockerell’s Bumblebee” was recent found by UC-Riverside scientists. This is the first sighting since 1956 in south-central New Mexico. This Bumblebee gets its rarest status from being identified 6 original specimens. Later 16 more specimens were found. Most bees are identified from at least dozens and sometimes as many as thousands of specimens. It also has the smallest known range of any Bumblebee, 300 square miles.
