It is very likely you have heard of bird counts and maybe even butterfly counts, but did you know there is also a bee count.  San Francisco State Univeristy Professor Gretchen Le Buhn has organized an annual bee count to help researchers map bee populations.  This helps show where there is a population loss and see if actions can be taken to help restore bee populations.   The Bee count encourage participants to grow plants that attract bee and count the number of bees in their gardens on July 16. If you are interested in participating now is the time to find out about the count.   Planting bee attracting flowers now that will bloom in July can help support the bee population.   To learn more or take part go to  Join The Hunt for Bees! and Bay Nature article Gearing Up for the Great Bee Count
